Every now and then you gotta ask yourself do you really trying to win, or just look good losing?
-Phonte Coleman of Little Brother
One of my favorite rappers said this line in a song and til this day the thought stays at the forefront of my mind. It makes me measure my effort at times. It makes me evaluate my level of discipline. For all kinds of reasons though. The answer to this question makes me appreciate the more mundane tasks or grunt work I do on a daily basis.
If I’m really trying to win, I move differently. I’m more focused and I use my time and my resources to assist me. What do you do when you’re really trying to win? I tend to work to elevate the spirits and skill level of the people around me.
Just trying to look good losing? I can’t lie. I’ve been there as well. Have you ever been down by 50 points to a team that is better than you? LOL. There is something to break down there as well. Even in a losing battle you can work hard and learn something. try new ideas, change your perspective. I mean. you can use that to your advantage as you prepare for the next challenge.
Whatever you’re doing. Do it with conviction. Do it with purpose. More on this a bit later…
