“Bring more to the table than your appetite”.
My Great Uncle told me this while sitting on his back porch in my youth. It always made me laugh, but it has shaped the way I tend to interact with people.
Later in life I was told the rock soup story. I’ll break that down another day.
Ultimately, It is important to make a contribution equal to want you want to receive. We tend to know what we want when we walk into rooms and sit at tables. Take the time to find out what it is you can give when you enter and sit.
Be hungry! Yes, be hungry! Have the want to ingest and digest something that provides fuel for what you are working to accomplish. At the same time, bring something to the environment that shows you appreciate the work and the time it took to feed you.
What do you think?
~Artie Mo
never thought of bringing something to the table in regards to appreciation to the work.

I think this also speaks to being open to listening to diverse thoughts, absorbing and not just reacting to what others might present. “Being hungry” is a state of mind but also a life philosophy. One should never feel sated and entirely comfortable in life, the world and the people in it can open our eyes to what we don’t know, what we fear and make us reconsider what we think we know, like and believe in.
